Studying the Classic of Tranquility 清静经
A Contemplative Practice
- Started Oct 10Started Oct 10
- Online Zoom Meetings
How does one experience stillness in contemporary chaos and the zeitgeist of blowout and disconnect? In this course, we will be exploring the Daoist textual tradition and its relationship with 'zuowang' meditation practice by looking at the Classic of Tranquility 清静经 (Qingjing Jing), a seminal meditation text of the Daoist tradition and central to the Wudang Sanfeng Lineage. While it can be argued that the Qingjing Jing was influenced by the introduction of Buddhism to China, this text directly draws on themes of heart-mind cultivation central to the proto-Daoist texts of the Guanzi 管子 which predates and informs the Daodejing 道德經. Through study of the Qingjing Jing alongside daily meditation practice, we will breakdown each line, apply it to our path of comprehending the cosmology of Daoism, and how that cosmology is embodied in our experience as human beings. Participants will be expected to engage in a form of reflexive practice wherein their study of the Qingjing Jing informs their meditation practice and vice-a-versa. We will meet weekly to discuss a new section of the text and discuss its relevance for meditation practice. Participants are encouraged to keep a journal and bring questions to class. Chanting of the Qingjing Jing as a daily practice will also be presented for those interested. Tuition for this course is a sliding scale of $200 to $400 dollars. Payment can be made thru PayPal to email@example.com
Cancellations and refunds will not be accepted within one week of the start of a class.
